Benefits Of Natural Linen Baby & Kids Clothes for Australian Climate

I love to dress and sleep in linen fabric.

I love to wrap my family in linen goodies, whenever I can.

And now I finally managed to integrate my love for linen  in our

Elves in the Wardrobe range by introducing the most lovely New Zealand based baby & small children clothes label Hudson & Hare and German based Puenktchen Komma Strich.

Especially with our hot Australian summer in full swing, you can't go passed the magic of natural linen baby & kids clothes, when shopping locally or online.

There are a number of benefits to this relaxed and comfortable fabric that make it perfect not only for our hot summer months but provides an amazing alternative to organic cotton clothing as an all year rounder.

Here are our Elves top 9 reasons for loving linen on your children:

1. Strength and durability
Linen is considered to be the strongest of all natural fibres and it's even been found to get stronger as well as softer after every wash!

It has been dated back to 8000 BC and in ancient Egypt it was used as currency, demonstrating it's strong and sturdy nature. This means that linen clothing will last for many seasons and generations to come and will still look absolutely marvellous as a hand me down, starting with some organic linen clothes for newborns.

2. It's a natural fibre with a lower environmental impact than cotton

Linen is made from the stalks of flax plants, which are resilient species that can grow in poor soils requiring very little if any fertilizer.

The linen production process has been found to be significantly less water intensive than that for cotton, giving it a lower water footprint. Almost all of the flax plant can be used, and with the demand for flax seeds and oils increasing in the health food industry, there is very little to no wastage of the plants.

Plus, being a natural fibre it's also biodegradable.

 3. Breathable and highly absorbent

As linen fibres are hollow they allow more airflow over your baby's & child's skin than other materials.

They are also highly absorbent, gaining up to 20% of their dry weight in moisture without feeling damp.

This makes linen perfect for sunny spells and warm getaways, helping you to keep

to keep your whole family cool!

4. Naturally insect repelling Baby & Kids Clothes in Australia!

Wow about that?

Indeed, that is correct!

Baby & kids linen clothes is thought to naturally repel insects like moths, so you're unlikely to find any unwanted bite marks after being in your little Elf's wardrobe.

5. A little bit of luxury for your little bubs

Flax plants must be pulled from the ground to maintain the full length of their fibres. The plants are then left in a field to soften, so that the fibres are easier to separate. Once extracted, the fibres are collected, rolled and stored for two to three months for further softening, before they are twisted and processed with a spinning technique. This lengthy process is why linen is considered to be one of the most luxurious natural fabrics, and why linen is more expensive than other materials like cotton.

6. Hypoallergenic

More and more newborn babies and small kids are unable to wear conventional clothes due to a hypersensitivity and eczema skin condition.

Many conventional, clothing have a synthetic fibre content or a heavy pesticide treated cotton blend that leads to a moisture build up due to poor airflow qualities, which creates an environment for bacteria and microbes to breed and grow.

Linen on the contrary is known for it's amazing airflow qualities and breathability, allowing air to flow and move around freely and will allows moisture be released very fast, creating a healthy Ecosystem on your skin and will calm and settle discomfort of allergies and supports the healing process of hypersensitive skin and eczema conditions.

7. Suitable for every season

We all love linen during the hotter Australian summers, being lightweight, breathable, moisture-wicking.

But linen clothes for babies and kids have another magical quality:

Flax, from which is linen made, is actually used to make home insulation products.

Flax / Linen fabric are natural insulators and are capable for releasing excess humidity.

Linen clothes will retain the heat from your body and will release the excess making your baby and kids feel nice, comfortable and cozy.

8. Easy to care for

Which mother doesn't like the idea of easy to care for baby and kids clothes?

Linen clothes for your little bubs don't require and special treatment and can be machine washed.

The only thing to keep in mind is to use cold water and not use and bleach or detergents with optical whiteners as they will weaken to fibre.

You can tumble dry your families linen clothes or hang them out on the washing line to dry.

Another good thing about baby & kids linen clothes is that it doesn't need to be ironed to look good.

Good quality linen is naturally wrinkly and these wrinkles are part of it's natural beauty.

So, horray to all those beautiful linen wrinkles!

9. Comfort

Last but not least if you put all of these amazing qualities for linen baby and kids clothes together, you will have some amazing, high quality garments for your little bubs, that not only look sensational but are also extremely lightweight, breathable, hard wearing, moisture wicking, perfect for precious, sensitive skin, thermo-regulating and above all amazingly comfortable without restricting your little Elves.
